The Friday Column: Terminator Morris: Judgment Day

terminator-morris-sqDid you know that Jehovah’s Witness leaders think they will personally be involved in killing billions of people in the near future?

Anthony Morris III, a member of the religion’s leadership committee known as the Governing Body, gave a talk at the Helsinki international convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in June 2016.

As I listened to the speech, for the first time it struck me that Morris, and other members of the Governing Body, actually think that any day now they will personally be involved in the slaughter of most of the Earth’s population.

How so?

Well, let’s take a tour through some of the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses, to help us better put into context the claims Morris made during his Helsinki talk, which began at minute 54 in the video. We cannot host the video here, as Watchtower has in the past tried to shut the website down for such actions, but in unrelated news, here is some modern art that your web browser might like:

Armageddon: Who lives, who dies, and who kills them?

Watchtower's grim teaching of Armageddon can be a tough sell - especially in a foreign tongue

Morris and his fellow Governing Body members claim to belong to a group known in the doctrine of the Jehovah’s Witnesses as “the 144,000” also called ”the anointed.” It’s a group that Witnesses teach will go to heaven after their death, and will soon rule over the Earth from the heavenly realm. The Witnesses also believe that the rest of faithful humanity form a second group called “the great crowd.” They teach that this second group will survive the climactic battle of Armageddon.

What is the battle of Armageddon according to Jehovah’s Witnesses? They believe it to be the great final battle between God and “unfaithful mankind.” This is what the Jehovah’s Witnesses say about the role of the 144,000 in the coming Apocalypse:

The timing of the gathering indicates that all anointed ones will be in heaven before God’s war of Armageddon begins. In heaven, the 144,000 corulers with Christ will receive authority to share with Jesus in wielding “an iron rod” of destruction against all enemies of God’s Kingdom. (Rev. 2:26, 27) – Jehovah’s Witness publication God’s Kingdom Rules, chapter 21.

So who exactly will be killed at Armageddon?

According to the Watchtower, everyone who isn’t a Jehovah’s Witness.

“Only Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil.” – Watchtower September 1st, 1989, p.19.

Jehovah’s Witnesses expect Armageddon to start any moment. There are currently approximately 8 million active Jehovah’s Witnesses, perhaps around 10–12 million Jehovah’s Witnesses when small children and others who are not involved in proselytizing are counted. So if Armageddon started now and only Jehovah’s Witnesses were spared that means approximately 99.9% of humankind would be killed. Though they might try to conceal it when you first speak to them, this bloodbath is central to the message of the Jehovah’s Witnesses preaching the Word on a street near you.

Anthony Morris: Angel of Death?

Screenshot 2016-08-26 21.49.37In his speech in Helsinki this summer, Anthony Morris III referred to 2nd Kings Chapter 19 Verse 35. Here, the Bible claims that a single angel sent by Jehovah killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers during one night. Morris then goes on to say: “At Armageddon, the Christ Jesus will stand up, and along with him the 144,000. Can you imagine, one angel destroyed 185,000, what’s 144,000 immortal creatures with Jesus going to do? And only the loyal ones are in the Book.”

The Book he refers to is the Book of Life mentioned in Revelation 17:8. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses: “It appears that Jehovah God, figuratively speaking, has been writing names in the book of life from “the founding of the world.” – it appears that only when a person becomes a servant of Jehovah is his name written in “the book of life,” and only if he continues faithful is his name retained in that book.” – Jehovah’s Witness publication Insight on the Scriptures, volume 2, pp. 464-468.

Basically, what Morris is saying to his audience in the final talk of the convention in Helsinki is this: “you must remain a loyal servant of Jehovah – which equals being a loyal supporter of the organization I’m running – or I will personally be involved in killing you in the near future after I have been given supernatural powers by Jesus.”

I don’t know if the Jehovah’s Witness leaders have thought about this, but threatening to kill someone unless they are loyal to you is usually considered to be a crime. It’s certainly something most people would consider to be extremely unethical.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are sometimes called pacifists, because they refuse to serve in the armies of any countries. However, I can’t help but wonder if this term is really appropriate when the leaders of the religion, men such as Anthony Morris III, are eagerly waiting to wage war as supernatural creatures with the sole purpose of brutally slaughtering defenceless men, women and children by the billions.

Can you imagine Jesus Christ stating these things? Or, God telling Moses that one of the 10 commandments is ‘Thou shall not have tight robes’. Or, the romans that are gay should be witnessed by Christian youths telling them not to be gay. It seems that Tony has some vendetta against people. It seems that he is from the same genealogy as a past U.S. president named George W. Bush. The more Tony talks, the more people are wondering if he is truly Anointed. In my opinion, the more he talks the more I do not want to watch the JW Broadcasting videos. Personally, I have not given a Watchtower donation in over 20 plus years and this guy is one of the reasons why. Then, I have to remember that the bubble boys and girls of Watchtower are in their fantasy park called Watchtowerland.

And they call apostates “mentally diseased?” There is something seriously wrong with this guy, ‘ya think? If I had not been out for over 20 years, Morris would have definitely done it for me.

****God, figuratively speaking, has been writing names in the book of life from “the founding of the world.”****

The JWs and by extension Christianity didn’t come into existence at “the founding of the world” – the JWs didn’t come into existence until 1874/1879 and Christianity didn’t come into existence until the 1st century CE.

So if God has been writing names in the book of life from “the founding of the world”, are the JWs and by extension Christianity necessary for persons to gain life if your name can be written in the book of life without these things?

We’ll written! We can reason together; and also about other matters ,keeping also in mind a q1ustion was asked by Christ Michael regarding who will really behave faithfully and discreetly while also that any7 such entrusted servant could become evil and so judged [Matt. 45-50].Therefore necessitating sincere repentance and admission. If it’s not too late. The All-knowing, All-able Deity is ever compassionate and merciful when that is genuinely sought.

He is a lover of violence, as was already mentioned…out of the hearts abundance the mouth speaks. He is someone we should not associate with according to the GB’s own writings.

I think the quotes are not right here. It makes it look like DJ Tony M is actually saying it, which is what I first thought, until I went over the article a second time.

To be fair to WT – which is difficult, as they’re so totally unfair to us – I don’t think they’ve ever claimed to be pacifists.

They always state they’re “neutral” to the affairs of the world. As a JW I used to suggest it’s like Switzerland was neutral during WW2, but also had a large army (mainly of reservists).

The Swiss didn’t officially support either the Axis or Allies during the war but were prepared to defend themselves, using force if necessary, if their neutrality was violated by either of the warring factions.

You are right, they have never claimed to be pacifists, but outsiders sometimes wrongly view them as such.

Not sure where to post this so T3 gets it. I am livid to the point of having to drink a fair amount of wine last night. My poor daughter had no baby sitter so left her little one with an elders wife who just happens to be a shirt sleeve relation. I was furious because I had to go pick her up from said relation. I got the who ‘time of the end talk’ so I told her that the WT had been saying this for years blaa blaa blaa. Next I was told to read last Sundays study article’ told her ‘couldn’t, do have it’… told to read it online. I told her ‘couldn’t, deleted it off the computer’.. shock, horror, splutter… all this time her elder husband was loitering just out of sight in his office. Can’t prove it but I sensed him. I told her that I could not, with my own conscience sit at a hall or read the literature and condone what the org was doing in regards to child abuse. Well next came the… ‘well that’s propaganda against us and not true… ‘so explain JJ being there?… well he’s an imperfect man and Jehovah will sort it all on out. “what about the abused children (name)?

Now this is the part that blew me away……

‘The children don’t matter – only Jehovah. He will wipe it all out of our memories..’ by that time I was ready to take a swing at her but I bit my tongue, bid her good day and left.

I hope I get df’d now… they have their two witnesses. I would be proud to be df’d for making a stand against this cult.

Oh and the elder? as I left I heard her talk to him as she shut the door.

Lloyd or any of our ex or fading elders, please I need your advice. Tonight two elders pulled up in a car next to my daughter and said they would see her very soon at home. She called me distressed and as we were talking I heard knocking on my door… yes they had come to the house. It was just getting dark. I live in my daughters basement suite and her husband, a non witness is away. I managed to get upstairs without being seen and saw their car parked outside the house. My daughter was hiding out on a secluded pathway for me to give the ‘all clear’, at which point she ran up the road and into the house. I have just found a note stuck through my door saying I am to call their number as they want to talk to me. I am disgusted that they would do this to two women. Thankfully we have some good neighbours who watch out for us. My daughter called one but the elders had left by then. can someone please tell me what to do about this. Is it the lead up to being df’d – re my post.

The JW.Org’s obsession with death, dying, destruction, annihilation …. is amazing and reveals it as being a “Death Cult”. Recently, a little kid in our cong, when asked “What would happen if you were disobedient to your parents” answered promptly, without any thinking: “JEHOVAH WOULD DESTROY ME IN HARMAGEDDON.” It was like a whip lash. It made me shudder. To those people, nothing is more normal than BEING DESTROYED, being RIPPED APART and scorched like a hotdog forgotten on a BBQ grill. They are going through life, viewing their “wordly” colleagues, people they meet during shopping, hiking, … as future scorched hotdogs. That’s totally normal to them. Nothing to fret about. What kind of twisted world view this is.

I still cannot get her words out of my head. I was holding my two year old grand child’s hand right there in front of her…. ‘The children don’t matter.’ What a sick comment from a person who is so swept up in the cult….

Actually, I have to correct this:

The kid said “Jehovah would KILL me!” Yep guys, that’s it – we don’t need Tony and his pumpgun – JWHW is the big KILLER, the lean mean Armageddon killing machine. The Creator is the Terminator. He gives life and He snuffs it out. Make sense?

I could not see a specific quote from AM3 that proved the headline, but a few clicks brought this comment from their books.

Revelation Climax ch 10 par 18 (revised 2006)

“18 To those Christians in Thyatira, Jesus now speaks heartwarming words. They also encourage anointed Christians today: “And to him that conquers and observes my deeds down to the end I will give authority over the nations, and he shall shepherd the people with an iron rod so that they will be broken to pieces like clay vessels, the same as I have received from my Father.” (Revelation 2:26, 27) Indeed a wonderful privilege! This authority that anointed conquerors receive at their resurrection is a sharing with Jesus in wielding the “iron rod” of destruction against the rebellious nations at Armageddon. At best, the nuclear firepower of those nations will sputter like a wet firecracker when Christ dashes his enemies to pieces as he would vessels of clay.”

So yes, assuming that he expects to pop his cloggs before the Great Day, he would anticipate a share in the bloodbath…….

Yes, the killing has been mentioned in literature before, as Steve McRoberts pointed out above they have said this since the time of Rutherford. I never thought about it so much until I heard from Anthony Morris who thinks he will be there to kill people.

Thanks everyone for comments and your support. Someone said above that Anthony Morris has probably not thought about this deeply. I agree, I think most JWs probably do not really think about this. They manage to leave it to Jesus or Jehovah to decide what the judgement might be. They think “enemies” will be killed. As we know, humans have a capacity to dehumanize “enemies” so it does not matter how they feel or if they or their children suffer. This capacity is thousands of years old and has enabled people to carry on despite incredible suffering.

    Excellent article Joni.

These people are crazy, dangerously so. My wife and children are still in this cult and I fear for their well being. My youngest daughter (18) made contact with me at the start of 2015. She is a baptized witness and we now have regular contact. Recently whilst having a meal together she told me she no longer went to meetings or took part in field service. She asked me what the catalyst was for me leaving watchtower and I told her that I researched 607 BCE. She knows that I am an atheist and that I accept evolution as a scientific fact. I did not press the subject any further. I will wait for my daughter to question me further which I sincerely hope she does. Not for my sake but for her own. I know that many ex jws think that the gb are delusional. For me, the jury is still out on this. There is a very narrow ledge between delusion and insanity, my opinion. Listening to Tony getting all hot for the great slaughter is chilling stuff. The gb rule by terror.
