Is Tony's position on the Governing Body now more of a hindrance than a help?
Is Tony’s position on the Governing Body now more of a hindrance than a help?

It seems almost unthinkable that Tony Morris should be forced to stand down from the Governing Body, but stranger things have happened.

Ewart Chitty and Leo Greenlees were removed from the Governing Body in 1979 and 1984 respectively, albeit under very different circumstances. Raymond Franz resigned in 1980 amid Watchtower’s frenzied purge of “apostates.”

If Anthony Morris III ends up becoming the fourth Governing Body member to be stripped of his lofty position, it would likely be for a very different reason than his ignominious predecessors – because his outspokenness is making him a liability to the organization.

Those who follow his exploits closely enough on YouTube are only too familiar with his arrogant, eccentric streak on the platform. Until recently, his outrageous musings on such topics as scorched Armageddon victims, child baptism, “thinkingest” people, tight pants, and the nature of eternity were known only to select audiences of Witnesses, such as those attending a particular convention or zone visit.

But the organization is changing, and pushing Governing Body members increasingly to the fore. JW Broadcasting promises to do this on a scale never before seen. And Tony’s embarrassing performance on Saturday at the “special meeting” for the U.S. branch visit demonstrated perfectly why introducing Witnesses to their dear leaders “warts and all” is a monumental error that could seriously backfire.

At Saturday’s special meeting, an audience of well over a million Jehovah’s Witnesses in the branch territory of United States were subjected to an avalanche of stupidity from Tony’s lips.

Sisters were told that they cannot marry a man older than 23 if he is not by that age a ministerial servant. They were also instructed that they cannot go jogging wearing “spanx” – which one assumes is any tight-fitting spandex or lycra. Families were informed that it is inexcusable for them to visit an amusement park rather than visit bethel if it is within their means to do so.

And once again, “Tight Pants Tony” shared his bizarre clothing obsession – reiterating his belief that tight pants are part of a conspiracy by homosexual fashion designers whose sole aim in life is to drool over the contours of the male figure.

Speaking for myself, the only real surprise in all of the above was the brazen and unguarded manner with which Tony aired his clearly ridiculous views. I have known for some time that he is more than capable of unleashing such madness on an audience. I just had no idea he was brave enough to indulge himself to this extent in front of every single congregation in the United States branch territory.

The whole thing was made only more awkward by Tony’s promise at the start of his talk that he would support all “things that could ignite a controversy” with references from the publications. Unless there is a Watchtower somewhere that prescribes what jogging apparel Witnesses may or may not wear, or whether non-Ministerial Servants over 23 are eligible as marriage partners, Tony utterly failed to do this.

But it was precisely Tony’s arrogance that led him to insist that everything he said was backed up by God himself, even if so many of his absurd views are notable in the publications only by their absence.

Consider the following video clip, taken from the recording of the 2014 Annual Meeting Program on JW Broadcasting, where Tony speaks of how Witnesses in a certain branch territory where he “wasn’t treated too well” ought to be in fear of his “big brother.”

It’s easy to imagine how a religious leader with this level of narcissism could believe his expressions are automatically rubber-stamped by the Almighty.

Though it would be almost unthinkable for the Governing Body to go so far as to eject Tony from their circle of power, the fact remains that the more he is allowed to spout forth such silly, arrogant ramblings to bewildered audiences, the more the veil of awe and respect surrounding the Governing Body will evaporate.

I certainly hope the Governing Body doesn’t do the smart thing by dispensing with Tony’s services now before it is too late. It is in my interests for the organization to implode sooner rather than later to prevent more lives being ruined, and few things would better facilitate this than for Tony Morris to continue his eyebrow-raising performances until he departs to meet his “big brother.”

But in the unlikely event that the Governing Body spoils my fun and orders a taxi for Mr Morris, I can at least celebrate the fact that a million or so Witnesses in the U.S. now have the awkward but indelible realization that one of the members of their revered “faithful slave” is a monstrous prude who is fixated with tight clothing, and sees his opinions and God’s as more-or-less the same thing.

If you all want to see how “gays” think about Tony’s talk, you should go to a Youtube video called “Jehovah’s Witness Leader says God Hates Tight Pants HQ”. It was posted Nov. 10 and has almost 7,000 views already. Go down to a poster called: VAMPYR ENGEL and read his comment. Be prepared for some language.

I am new to this site but would like to comment. I am a non witness (non believer I guess the term is). After seeing these posts refering to the zone meetings I asked my wife what was said at the meeting. Her reply was that all of the talks were very uplifting. This is a women that was raised catholic and was thinking about becoming a nun as a young girl. When witnesses came to the door while I was at work (probably lonely and wanted to talk to someone) I didn’t think much about it as I was a non practicing christian.

Well before I knew it she was ready to get baptized. I researched the religion and started to show her all of the differences between “her” religion and my mainline beliefs. This didn’t get very far and caused many problems.

I’ll stop my rambling but bottom line it seems that once baptized people seem to lose all sense of reasoning and open mindedness as seen by her comment about the meeting being very uplifting??? Help!!!

All main stream faiths are valuable.

Jehovahs Witnesses aka JWs are more high profiled due to high standards Everyone Is Suppose to Follow!!

JWs use and open and read the bible in all meetings in the Kingdom Hall aka KH. As all faiths may or may not do.

Main stream faiths and JWs give hope to everyone.

Just like American football you have 32 teams, all have a basic understanding on offense and defense, however, only one receives the prizes.

You have to research and do the match ups, who’s injured, who’s playing hurt. Who’s the leading NFC rusher, the offense ranking and the worst defense. Then you have a better evaluation on who’s going to win the prizes for the day.

Look at All main stream faiths with this fair approach, then you decide.

    Hope this helps.

@Alone in MD. Has your wife been baptized yet? Everyone says the talks are “uplifting”. We all said that when we were JW’s also. We were trained to say that and if not, we’d just keep our mouths shut. Nobody wants to hear anything except “uplifting”. I have been a JW since 1966 and I can tell you that all the talks are boring but nobody wants to say it.

What you need to do right away is get a copy of Ray Franz’s book called “Crisis of Conscience” and read it. He was in the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses and once a person reads his book, you will see through all the lies. She needs to read that book.

There are literally dozens of books that you can read that expose the Watchtower for what it is, which is a dangerous and deluded cult.

The Watchtower brainwashes all it’s followers into believing (using scripture) that the end of the world is any minute now and you must get on the “ark” of the Organization if you want to be saved through Armageddon. It’s the use of the scriptures is what makes a person believe and so even now, your wife won’t be easy to convince. It doesn’t take long for a person to get brainwashed by their “bible” study.

One thing that you should mention to her right away is is that Jesus is the mediator between God and man, only to the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, ie. the “anointed”. In other words, they really don’t have an intercessor for their prayers to God unless a person claims to be of the 144,000 anointed.

Have her ask her elders who is the mediator (intercessor) between her and God. If they know what they are doing, they will have to say that Jesus is the mediator but it’s only for the “anointed”. Does she have the two volume Insight on the Scriptures? It’s in the 2nd volume under mediator. Almost all of Jehovah’s Witnesses think that they can pray to God through Jesus Christ, but it’s only an illusion that the Watchtower Society wants their followers to think. The Governing Body reserves that right. When they go to meetings and an elder offers prayers, even that elder doesn’t realize that his prayer is meaningless but if they were to look up mediator in the Insight book and gave it any thought, they would realize that they are being duped.

You can read “Crisis of Conscience” right from Cedar’s web site here. It’s under his story. You can download it and read it for free. He made that provision here.

    minion,

I agree that individual Witnesses can apply high standards in their lives. I know many good hearted individual JWs.

However, the religion itself does not apply high moral standards! It lies to the authorities, it covers up child abuse with a two witness rule, it encourages victims of domestic violence to stay with the abusive partner, it bans blood transfusions, it distorts scientific facts, it shuns former members, etc etc etc.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult. To compare them to mainstream Christianity is problematic.

    Peace be with you,

Having a hope can be a solace, especially in times of stress
or pain such as bereavement. Hope though, is used by the
various religions to retain adherence, and loyalty.

The J,W, religion takes it to extremes, using hope as a basis
for mind control, and to regulate every aspect of life.

It’s mandatory to accept all teachings, without question, even
when a complete u turn is made, failure to conform results in
    excommunication, and withdrawal of hope.

Seeking higher education, failure to be a full time worker
if able to do so, or failing to meet set quotas, missing meetings,
etc, etc, all brand you as, spiritually weak and in danger of
    losing hope.

I’ve known good people, who have forgone the Joy of family life
in reaching out for this hope, only to end their lives in
disappointment, Prov, 13/12. So in the case of the J,W, religion
the word “Exploitation” is more fitting than the word “Hope.

At the time I was not very strong in my religion and figured how can i object to someone preaching “the word”. I have tried to reason with her about Ginza, Beth Sarim, the blood issue, “the annoited” the false predictions, child molesters, etc etc,. The comment is that she feels sorry for me not believing in the “truth”.
My comment is to any spouses DON’T ALLOW

    @Alone in MD.

Actually you are in a much better position than ones who have been associated their whole lives. She doesn’t have nearly as much to lose as they do so be hopeful.

She must have the 2 volume Insight to the Scriptures books. Have her turn to volume 2 and look up mediator. In that article, it is very cleverly hidden in one little paragraph that Jesus is the mediator only for the 144,000 or in other words, the Governing Body. Have her explain how since Jesus is only mediating for the Governing Body, she isn’t really praying through the Governing Body and not Jesus? Take her to Mathew 28:18 and have her explain how since Jesus was given all authority at his resurrection, that the Society says, no, that didn’t happen and his only authority was given to the 144,000 and the real authority didn’t come till 1914. Have her explain that to you. The Society explains that away under volume 2 under the article called Kingdom of God.

Be hopeful. Over the years, I have seen dozens of people in my congregation, who got baptized and associated for a few years and I haven’t seen them again. It’s the ones who have family still in the organization who have the most to lose and it’s the hardest for them to leave.

    @annoy & MD & excel:

    Ok, heres the real deal:

definition of perfection is “never to grow old and die, to live forever” Known as perfect health, mind body and soul.

The opposite of perfection is the “world we live in”.

Please locate the WT book “JWs Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom” printed 1993 and both read chapters 15-21 or section 3. This will help you explain the darkness or dark side in the beginning of the WT.

If Cedars would survey how many active or (true) JWs have read this book in its entirety or the Bible, you will be surprise and find out Not many. Or may not even be aware this dark side information even exist in current WT books.

Have you ever noticed when you replace an electronic part household or automobile that’s broken or worn out, you have to replace it. If you only replace the broken part and the rest of the unit is ok-fine. Until the secondary parts start to fail. Then your obligated to replace the secondary parts, this way All new parts (replaced or repaired) are working in harmory and in just. The WT has some serious broken parts which they refuse to repair and replace, why? I wish I had a fair answer to share. . . . . . .

Time may be running out against WT, I always unstood the talks given “5 minutes until the final hour for mankind” I didn’t think this would include the WT . . . . . . . WT needs to check yourself in the mirror “no one is above the law and were not under the Mosiac law where your 2 witness rule-comes from”

I hope the information helps out.

You can find some of these questions here:

Some of the articles have the characteristic of a somebody ringing a dry flannel in the hope of extracting a tiny bit of juice to write about. This is one such article I’m afraid. I mean, this Morris guy has a point doesn’t he? Girls dressed in those tight yoga pants look damn hot (and I’ll take a peek as much as the next man – it’s difficult not to), and that’s the problem. WHY CONSIDER THE CONSCIENCES OF OTHERS?
12 You may find yourself surprised at times by the degree to which Christian consciences differ. One person finds a practice or custom objectionable; another enjoys it and sees no basis for condemning it. In the matter of social drinking, for example, one finds delight in having a drink with a few friends as they relax together for an evening; another is troubled by the practice. Why are there such differences, and how should they affect our decisions?
13 People differ for many reasons. Backgrounds vary greatly. Some, for instance, are acutely aware of a weakness that they have struggled with in the past—perhaps not always successfully. (1 Kings 8:38, 39) When it comes to alcohol, such individuals would likely feel particularly sensitive. If such a person comes to your home for a visit, his conscience may rightly move him to refuse the offer of a drink. Will you be offended? Will you insist? No. Whether you know his reasons or not—reasons that he may choose to keep private in this setting—brotherly love will move you to be considerate.
14 The apostle Paul saw that consciences often varied widely among Christians in the first century. Back then, some Christians were troubled about certain foods that had been sacrificed to idols. (1 Corinthians 10:25) Paul’s conscience did not object to such foods that were subsequently sold at markets. To him, idols were nothing; idols could never own food that originated with Jehovah and belonged to Him anyway. Yet, Paul understood that others did not share his view of this matter. Some might have been deeply involved with idolatry before becoming Christians. To them, anything even formerly connected with idolatry was offensive. The solution?
15 Paul said: “We, though, who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those not strong, and not to be pleasing ourselves. For even the Christ did not please himself.” (Romans 15:1, 3) Paul reasoned that we should put the needs of our brothers ahead of our own, just as Christ did. In a related discussion, Paul said that he would rather not eat meat at all than stumble a precious sheep for whom Christ had given his life.—Read 1 Corinthians 8:13; 10:23, 24, 31-33.
16 On the other hand, those with a more restrictive conscience should not be critical of others, insisting that all view matters of conscience just as they do. (Read Romans 14:10.) Really, the conscience is best used as an internal judge, not as a license to judge others. Remember Jesus’ words: “Stop judging that you may not be judged.” (Matthew 7:1) All in the congregation want to avoid making an issue of personal matters of conscience. Instead, we seek ways to promote love and unity, building one another up, not tearing one another down.—Romans 14:19.

-Keep Yourselves in God’s Love. (book) Chapter 2, Pages 19-21, paragraphs 12-16.

Anthony Morris is insisting that all view matters of conscience just as he do. -Read Romans 14:10.
