Former Jehovah’s Witnesses share their stories in powerful new Faith to Faithless Videos

For some, the choice to leave a religion may involve nothing more than changing their mind as to what they believe to be true, and perhaps changing the box they tick on a census form.

Yet for others, the cost can be horrific: they may lose their homes, their families and even their very lives.

The organisation Faith to Faithless was set up to give a voice to vulnerable former members of any and all faiths, and allow them to share their experiences in the hope of raising public awareness of the issues “apostates” can face.

Their most recent collection of videos recount the experiences for four ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses and the experiences that awaited them once they decided to leave their religion. You can view the videos on the Faith to Faceless youtube page  or you can view them below.

Lightsabers Vs The Silver Sword

The first video features the story of someone who narrowly escaped becoming a Jehovah’s Witness. John Sargeant’s mother began to study with Jehovah’s Witnesses when he was a young boy. Watch as John tells his story and relates, among other things, how his love of Star Wars and the rules of his newfound religion started to clash…

From Pioneer to Apostate

The next video features the story of Celina Cabrel, a former Jehovah’s Witness who once served as a regular pioneer in the religion. She spent huge amounts of time in the preaching work, often turning down employment that would conflict with the demands of her faith. She once even refused a blood transfusion. Watch below as she recounts how she made the journey from being a faithful and devout Witness to a former Jehovah’s Witness, and of the horrendous price the religion demanded that she pay in order to leave…

Dress Rehearsal for Armageddon

The next video features JW Survey founder Lloyd Evans. Watch as Lloyd shares his story, including an eye opening account of how he was put through an emergency “Armageddon drill” as a child, and of the toll leaving the religion has taken on him and his family.

Hiding Sexuality and The Witches

The final video features the story of Ste Richardsson. Ste was a fourth generation Witness, his family were longtime members of the religion and great things were expected of the young Ste by fellow members of his faith. There were just two problems. Firstly, Ste was starting to have doubts about the claims made by the religion. Secondly, he was Gay. Watch below as Ste reveals, not only what it’s like to be Gay in a faith which teaches that homosexuals deserve to die, but also discusses how a famous children’s book once got him into serious trouble.
